More About Myself | Born and raised in South Africa. Qualified as a Chartered Accountant, moved to Vancouver where I spent 22 years before returning to South Africa, and now in the process of relocating back to BC. Regardless of where I was based I spent my career internationally doing corporate restructurings and turnarounds. In 2020 I did a pivot to designing financing structures for social enterprises as out lined below. I love working with people for the “greater good of all”, being in nature and photography. |
About The Work I Do | Over the last 5 years my attention shifted from mainstream investment banking/corporate finance to out of the box funding structures more supportive of the changing world around us. Combining deep finance experience with adaptive management practices. A bit like pushing water uphill, yet there are promising pockets to be cultivated and supported. Examples are trust-based funding, and systemic funding approaches, supportive of moving to an inclusive world. The elephant in the room is the lack of finance support for the societal shift underway. Always open to listen, and share, experiences with those implementing inclusive structures beyond the significant constraints of the existing system. Oscillating between Canada & South Africa. |
Why do you feel like your work or bioregionalism is important for the future of the Cascadia Bioregion? | We can only change what is not working from the bottom up, small groups, communities across the Cascadia bioregion. Change is a given, it is an inherent part of life. we can allow the downward spiral to continue, or come together to shift in the opposite direction. Collaborating and cocreating by learning as we do, 1 baby step at a time is how we take charge of creating the future we collectively want. Solving for the finance requirements to give life to such a process is a crucial part to give us a fighting chance to be successful. |
