  • Where would be the best place to discuss MRV (monitoring, reporting, and verification), i.e. how we determine positive ecological outcomes using science and technology? It’s not necessarily tech specific, and its separate from web3 (although distributed ledgers could be where the data is stored and attested to), and the intention would be to focus more on real world practices in the Cascadia bioregion.

If something like this interests other members, I think this would be a nice group/topic to add.

    Hi everyone,

I grew up on Bainbridge Island and attended Western Washington University in Bellingham where I studied languages, literature, and film. After earning my degree, I bounced around jobs, one of which was building solar panels, but eventually found myself pursuing a career as a software developer.

I was most recently working at Regen Network (https://www.regen.network/) as the technical product manager and lead developer on the Regen Ledger team (i.e. the blockchain team). Aside from the technical aspect of my work, I worked alongside our registry team to better understand the needs of project developers and land stewards and a lot of my work required understanding the voluntary carbon market as well as monitoring, measuring, and verifying positive ecological outcomes.

Despite my technical background, I’m actually more interested in getting involved in research and doing some on the ground work in Washington. I’m happy to share my knowledge with web3 tools, concepts, and different approaches, especially as it relates to governance and ecological data, but really I’m here to learn from all of you and to make new connections with people that share a passion for addressing the climate crisis and to support efforts in the movement towards bioregionalism.

Looking forward to learning more and hopefully meeting some of you in person as well. More about me can be found on my website: https://ryanchristo.com.

    Cheers,

    Ryan

  • Cool. No rush on setting it up. I’m still exploring a lot of the other discussions. Definitely something I would be interested in contributing to though.

Awesome. Sounds like I have some research to do. I’m less familiar with the involuntary conservation markets but keen to learn more and looking forward to connecting.

Hi Paul. Great resources, thanks for sharing! Very interesting work. Would love to hear more and also curious if you’ve done any work related to monitoring, reporting, and verification.

Hi Brad. I lived in Bellingham for about 6 years and attended Whatcom Community College before transferring to Western Washington University. Great place to be!
