I’ll start! My name is Brandon Letsinger. I’m one of the co-administrators for Regenerate Cascadia, along with Clare Attwell. I live in Seattle, along the Salish Sea, on the unceded lands of the Coast Salish and Duwamish peoples.

I founded CascadiaNow! in 2005 and the Department of Bioregion in 2017, a 501(c)3 fiscal sponsorship nonprofit organization. I’m also a co-producer of the Cascadia NW Arts and Music Festival and help organize the Cascadia Association Football Federation to see Cascadia represented at international soccer events. I love bioregionalism, Cascadia, and bioregional mapping. I love making giant puppets. I firmly believe that nation-state boundaries are arbitrary, divisive, non-representative of the people living here, and actively harmful. Nature acts on the scale of ecoregions, watersheds, and bioregions, and changes must come from the people who know a community the best: the people living there.

My hope and dream is for every person living here to identify as a citizen of their watersheds – not a nation-state. I’m so excited for this learning journey because I think it will help allow us to get to know each other better and our work – and begin building a shared pattern language and the support for a regenerative culture and economy. If these changes will happen anywhere – it will be here.

Great start Cameron! Going off of what Michael is saying, I’d love to see the main Cascadia bioregion map – but in this case it’s almost like a reference key. So what might be interesting is to do something like the five most common types (or most important?) – and then zero in on where those are most prevalent, as guided by the types you chose. I think this should definitely be accompanied by a short blog post, that talks about the types that you chose to feature.

This could be a really cool presentation – I don’t know much about the restoration camp movement – other than what I’ve read on your website. Maybe that could be a presentation organized/hosted by the Bioregional Education Guild – and could also talk more specifically about the work you’re sharing about? just a thought.

this is a great summary, thank you Paul.

  • I think this can be up to you! and in conversation with other folks starting subgroups. If we can be of any assistance, just let us know. We can nest groups under other groups – and have been trying to figure out some basic taxonomy that makes sense, but really, what’s emerged is that each place needs to really explore this for their area. It seems like location Hub / the watersheds/systems important to consider for that area – i.e. Whidbey is actually connected to Skagit, Fidalgo and the San Juans – who are connected to the Gulf Islands…. – so that will be an emerging discussion / as a part of the larger local ecoregionorsystems – i.e. Columbia River or Salish Sea – within the Cascadia bioregion

Hello Nicole and welcome!!! you have entered into the realm of “EARLY WEBSITE TESTER” :)))), with all the wonderful joy and pain that may cause.

As Tanja mentioned, definitely dig around and don’t hesitate to let us know issues you’re having. If you are having them – other people will and are as well.

You can connect with us here, or hop on the Telegram too if needed for a faster reply.

  • This is a great question. I think a topic for Monitoring and Reporting would be great.

    Thanks Julie.
like i said, it’s on my list – but it’s honestly not that important right now, with everything else we need to get done. that’s why these forum threads exist – so we can keep track of ideas, and then prioritize as needed.

If it’s a global element – header, footer, menu, single page etc – please don’t change it. Especially without talking about it first. If there are suggestions, absolutely add them here, make a message in the web thread, our personal thread etc. or mention it at a meeting.

Just a note – there is no art leadership team right now, which is why it doesn’t have a page. Same with web3, regen finance etc. Guilds/Hubs get pages – communities do not.

things like changing it so it shows to everyone is a really subtle detail that is hard to catch. I didn’t realize it’s now showing in duplicate, so am changing. thank you for letting me know that you made that change, because I wouldn’t have realized without it, but that’s why in this early stage, it is important that we have a very clear line of communication about changes being made to the website.

thank you Julie. we had talked about this earlier, and will it will be addressed soon. feel free to put things like that in this topic thread, in our group message, or bring it up at the website meeting, but please don’t change core structure for global elements.

Whatcom and Whidbey are pages, just like Bioregional Education, seed guild etc.

    Hi Julie,

So, the main thing is that this menu will get very unwieldy very fast, and be confusing because it’s not being organized. For example, we also need to add Whidbey and Whatcom to it… so now we have hubs, and guilds in the same space. and just visually, this will be a huge menu very soon later.

    – Pages show default for people logged out in the main menu
    – Groups show default for people logged in.

Making a page show up under about or organizer tools, or the start here menu – that appears for when people are logged in – is a good idea. But it may be worth just having a single page, rather than a whole menu – that then people can find a portfolio of pages. Not sure though yet.

I’ll check in on the menu tomorrow.

also, just to put it here from earlier – template pack. So each group when it starts can have a template kit, with logo, and blank templates they can make their own.

yes! i think just to reiterate earlier conversations from today – style guide. So common elements like colors, fonts etc can help guide us, but then there can be customizable images etc. This can extend to pages, websites, social media etc.
